Manufacturing and Design Engineering (MaDE) is a BS degree program for students in the Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science who are interested in product and process design, manufacturing systems, and manufacturing management. MaDE is administered by the Segal Design Institute.

The mission of the MaDE program is to educate engineers in all aspects of product realization from product design to manufacturing technologies and operations, and to provide students with the ability to integrate various design and manufacturing processes into an effective system.
The enterprise model of manufacturing encompasses the entire value chain addressed by product-oriented firms:
- product development
- process selection
- operations management
- transportation and distribution
- systems integration
- customer support
Today's manufacturing engineers play roles in all these functions, serving in capacities as far ranging as:
- product designers
- production supervisors
- supply chain specialists
- sales engineers
- facility designers
- cost engineers
- consultants
