MMM Students Give Back to the Community
While the students in our MMM program have very busy schedules, they still make time to give back to the local community around Northwestern.
Despite being enrolled in the MMM program (a dual-degree program in which they pursue an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and an MS in Design Innovation from Northwestern Engineering), several students from MMM organized “Hoot for the Homeless,” a fundraiser. Proceeds were donated to Connections for the Homeless, a local non-profit organization that provides housing and supportive services to move individuals and families in need.
“Having volunteered at a daytime shelter in Boston before moving to Evanston, I was especially glad to find a real commitment from my peers to bring awareness to the issue of homelessness in the greater Kellogg community,” said Brooke Kingsland, a MMM Class of 2018 student and “Hoot for the Homeless” event organizer. “It’s an honor to continue this tradition of supporting resources for the homeless with new classmates and friends.”
The values of the Kellogg School of Management and Northwestern Engineering are represented by this charitable event.
“On the first day of school, Dean Blount gave us a speech pushing us to think about our roles as business leaders to leave the world a better place and use our power and privilege for good,” explained Kathy Yan Duan, the chief organizer of the “Hoot for the Homeless” and MMM Class of 2018 student. “While ‘Hoot for the Homeless’ has been a Kellogg tradition for years and is really fun for those who attend in their crazy costumes, it’s also our way as MMMs to give back to our local Evanston community.”
The efforts of the MMM student organizers and the many Kellogg students who participated in “Hoot for the Homeless” resulted in $2,500 being raised for Connections for the Homeless.
